Avicii's ex-girlfriend Emily Goldberg has tragically died aged just 34

Avicii's ex-girlfriend Emily Goldberg has tragically died aged just 34 - just a year after she celebrated being "cancer free".

Emily died on April 3, 2024 in La Jolla, California from a pulmonary embolism - a blood clot that blocks and stops blood flow to an artery in the lung. She was described as a "vivacious and unique person who experienced many adventures in her all too brief life" by her family.

She last posted on her Instagram account last year by sharing a photo of herself giving a thumbs up to the camera in hospital with the caption: "I lived b****." She added: "I have had cancer for the past year. I am now cancer free."

Her post has since been flooded with condolences to her family from Avicii fans, with one writing: "Hope you’re reunited with your soulmate Tim and you’re both enjoying rest and peace."

While another wrote: "Rest in peace." A third commented: "My deepest condolences to the family and loved ones so sorry for your loss. Rest in peace Emily."

Emily is survived by her parents, Julie and Sam Goldberg of La Jolla, and brother Aaron Goldberg of Chicago, Illinois.

Swedish star Avicii - real name Tim Bergling - died in 2018 by suicide at just 28 years old. Emily shared her pain at the time by sharing a series of pictures of the pair kissing and cuddling taken from when they dated from 2011 to 2013. She wrote: "'Come on babe, don’t give up on us. Choose me, and I’ll show you love.' Those are lyrics from a song Tim wrote for me. I wish I could have lived up to them."

She continued: "For the two years we were together, he was my closest confidante, and my best friend. Now I can’t look at Bear without knowing I’ll never see his face again. I’m still collecting my thoughts and thank you for all your kind words and texts. Wake me up when it’s all over, because I don’t want it to be real #ripavicii."

She also shared a Whatsapp conversation she had with the musician from an unknown date. She wrote: "I love u tim!" The superstar DJ replied: "I love you too emilyyyy."

Avicii was found dead in Oman on April 28 2018 and his devastated family said in a statement at the time: "Our beloved Tim was a seeker, a fragile artistic soul searching for answers to existential questions. An over-achieving perfectionist who travelled and worked hard at a pace that led to extreme stress. When he stopped touring, he wanted to find a balance in life to be happy and be able to do what he loved most – music."

They went on: "He really struggled with thoughts about Meaning, Life, Happiness. He could not go on any longer. He wanted to find peace. Tim was not made for the business machine he found himself in; he was a sensitive guy who loved his fans but shunned the spotlight.

"Tim, you will forever be loved and sadly missed. The person you were and your music will keep your memory alive. We love you. Your family."
