Bananas, cherries and peaches are among countless foods that may have a saucy meaning when used in the right setting - but have you ever wondered about pineapples?
Believe it or not, these spiky fruits mean something completely wild when turned upside down and are often spotted on cruises, according to experts. They usually crop up anywhere from bedroom doors, to Hawaiian shirts, as likeminded holidayers seek to communicate through this unspoken language.
"On a cruise ship, the secret symbol of an upside-down pineapple is regularly used as a code for swinging or 'wife-swapping'," reported Cruise Hive. "Attaching an upside-down pineapple to the cabin door is the most obvious way people advertise their openness to swinging."
Swinging - or wife swapping - is a form of open relationship, in which two couples may come together and switch their partners for sex. Pineapple-decorated bikinis, swimming trunks and hats may also be signs that someone is up for getting up to mischief on holiday. Although it's unclear where this trend may have come from, it's now widely recognised among the swinging community.
Meanwhile, wearing black rings, anklets or even leaving Tide detergent on a window ledge are among the less obvious signs of non-monogamy too, though others have reported more localised hints and trends. On Reddit, one person posted: "In the town we use to live in, there were rumours of a house party that happen[ed] frequently.

These revelations come as thousands of revellers have taken to openly, naughty holiday cruises, including TikTok influencers Bella and Jase (@4ourplay.com) who recently vlogged their remarkable experience. Taking to the platform, they said: "This is my third year on Temptation Cruise... this year it was on the Celebrity Summit.
"[We] decorated our door. It's a known thing that swingers like to decorate their door and so these are out favourite memes that Jase made and we put them up. We have some pineapple stuff to put around the room and then we made our little goodie bags for all of the people who book through us."
Unsurprisingly, this was met with countless intrigued comments, with many users eager to ask the couple questions about their holiday. One person wrote: "So, do people get tested first, or is it like a surprise later?", another added: "What does the boat smell like?", as a third said: "Do some people end up on this ship by mistake?"
