A new mum has been left shocked after being sent a note by her neighbour complaining about the noise that her four-month-old son makes. Tiffany, 36, said that after finding the message, which had been typed on a piece of A4 paper, she burst into tears.

Taking to Facebook, the new mum shared a photo of the note, which said: “I'm writing this on behalf of your neighbours and wanted to reach out to you regarding the noise level coming from your residence, particularly the crying of your baby. “While we understand that babies cry and a newborn can be tough, we can clearly hear everything from the early hours of the morning, throughout the day and into the evening.

“The prolonged and frequent crying has disrupted your fellow neighbours. Some of us work from home and others are shift workers. We have tried closing our windows and doors and even have turned on appliances with the TV and radio and the crying is still being heard. “We value being good neighbours and respecting each others' space but wanted to reach out and ask if it would be possible to close your rear doors and windows while the baby is feeling unsettled.”

At the end of the note the disgruntled neighbour asked for Tiffany’s ‘understanding and appreciation’ in dealing with the matter. Tiffany explained to that the ‘unreasonable’ note came as a big shock and left her feeling ‘pretty upset’.

She also insisted that her young son is ‘pretty chill’ and usually ‘settles quickly’, and added that he doesn’t scream all the time.Tiffany, and partner John, think that there are better ways to deal with situations like this one and added that ‘we would have been open to a conversation’, and feel that the the language used in the note aimed to ‘cause guilt’.

Tiffany said: “I won’t be closing my windows, and we’re not going to lock our house up or muzzle our baby.” The new mum’s now-viral post has sparked debate on Facebook, receiving a mixed reaction online. One said: “As a new mum myself, this really hurts reading this. As if we don’t have enough to worry about already.”

While a second added: “That person has obviously never dealt with a newborn.” Although many people believed that the letter was ‘rude’, others thought that the note was ‘well-considered’ and ‘very reasonable’. One person said: “It’s not an aggressive letter or anything abusive or threatening. Even says he wants to be good neighbours.” While another commented: “I don’t see any harm in it.”
