Vincent Kompany wants to return to the Premier League and raid Liverpool for Joe Gomez.

Kompany is eyeing up defensive reinforcements after taking over at Bayern Munich and likes Gomez’s versatility.

Gomez, 27, enjoyed his best season for Liverpool as he slotted in at centre-half, both full-back roles and even in the midfield holding role, making 51 appearances.

The defender won back his England place under Gareth Southgate and is in Germany, preparing for their opening Euro 2024 game against Serbia on Sunday.

Liverpool will issue a firm hands off warning to Bayern and they do not want to lose one of their most-valued players.

The Reds handed Gomez a five-year deal in 2022 to tie him to Anfield until 2027 and see him as a hugely-important player under new boss Arne Slot.

Bayern are also looking at Chelsea’s England defender Levi Colwill, but like Liverpool, the Blues are in no mood to sell him.

Colwill, 21, is under contract at Stamford Bridge until 2029 and while he missed out on Euro 2024 with the Three Lions, he is looking forward to working under new boss Enzo Maresca.

Bayern are casting their net wide and are also looking at Bayer Leverkusen’s Germany defender Jonathan Tah.

Liverpool have also been boosted by Luis Diaz’s decision to snub Barcelona’s overtures and stay at Anfield.

Diaz, 27, was wanted by Barcelona and his dad had said it would be a dream for the Colombia winger to play for the Spanish giants.

However Diaz, who is preparing for the Copa America in the US, insists he is perfectly settled at Liverpool.

“I’m very happy there at Liverpool,” he said. “It’s a great team and club. I’ve always wanted to play there, so I’m very happy and relaxed.

“I’m not thinking about anything else. I’m thinking about the Colombia national team, which is where we are.”

One player who has left Liverpool is Calvin Ramsay, who has joined Wigan on a season-long loan deal.

Ramsay, 20, was tipped to be Trent Alexander-Arnold’s understudy when he signed from Aberdeen for £6.5million two years ago, but has made just two appearances for Liverpool.

He had loans at Preston and Bolton last season and the Scotland Under-21 international hopes his time at Wigan will kickstart his career.

“I’m just excited for the start of the season, really,” he told Latics TV. “When I was driving up to the training ground, there was a real excitement.

“I don’t know what it was, just hungry to get going and show everyone what I can do and probably prove a few people wrong as well who have been maybe saying a few things or doubting me.”
