She issued the warning after it was revealed Labour is plotting to introduce new Net Zero laws that will force big companies and banks to limit their carbon footprint to comply with UN climate goals.

The Cabinet Minister said: “Beware the wolf in sheep’s clothing.

"Slapping fines onto British businesses who don’t comply will just send jobs abroad and leave consumers picking up the bill.

“Yet more evidence to industry’s claims that Labour’s energy plans will leave the UK ‘uninvestable’.”

Critics warn new laws risk exposing UK companies to “climate lawfare” with environmental groups bringing legal actions against companies failing to meet targets.

A Labour spokesman hit back calling the Tories a “clown-car government”, adding: “Scaremongering nonsense from a Conservative government that has overseen a cost of living crisis for millions of families, and forced thousands of businesses across the country to close because of rocketing energy bills.

“Only Labour can make Britain energy independent and cut bills for families.”
