Scientists have proposed a "cryptoterrestrial" theory to the UFO mystery, suggesting that unidentified objects could be members of an advanced species hiding on Earth.

Two Harvard scientists have estimated in a new research paper that there could be hidden places on Earth housing entire civilisations entirely different from humanity as we know it. They argue that while sceptics question why UFOs, if they are alien craft, would visit Earth so frequently, these beings may have actually been here all along.

The team wrote in their new study: "While this notion may sound unlikely on first hearing, many observers are persuaded that it is at least conceivable," adding that "not least because whole swathes of our planet remain virtually unexplored and uncharted."

They point out that with 80 per cent of our oceans unmapped, and still unveiling ancient mysteries like Yonaguni Jima, the 'Japanese Atlantis,' not to mention uncharted caves and the dark side of the moon, there's plenty of space for a 'stealth' civilisation. The researchers write in their piece, soon to be published in the journal Philosophy and Cosmology: "If another sentient species had inhabited Earth (or Mars) long before Homo sapiens, it is possible that we would have no notion."

In the new study, several regions on Earth and near Earth were cited as worthwhile candidates for investigating the chances of a "cryptoterrestrial" species' secret base. A group of scientists has joined forces to explore all credible theories surrounding the UFO enigma and ensure all are tkane into consideration, which has recently seen significant moves towards government transparency.

In Congress, the Pentagon and among others in top government circles UFOs are now more frequently termed UAPs, standing for "unidentified aerial (or anomalous) phenomena." One particular region, known as the "Alaska Triangle," spans between Anchorage, Juneau, and Utqiagvik. This area has been identified as a critical zone for UAP sightings and other mysterious occurrences.

The Triangle is notorious for over 20,000 unexplained disappearances since the 1970s, making it a prime location for UFO sightings. Moreover, the researchers have pointed out several fascinating archaeological finds that suggest the presence of ancient civilizations previously unknown before this species evolved.

A team has uncovered a massive underwater rock formation near Yonaguni Jima, Japan, which some marine geologists believe could be the remnants of a 5,000 year-old pyramid, possibly linked to an ancient Atlantis-like civilization. "The internal structure of Earth is still mostly a mystery," they noted in their findings.
