Taylor Swift is one of the most famous people on the planet, and is instantly recognisable thanks to her signature bangs and willowy frame.
However, she’s used a series of unusual methods over the years to try and keep a low profile amid the intensen spotlight on her personal life, and sleuthing Swifties have uncovered the ways she tries to avoid fans and paparazzi. Even her famous pal Zayn Malik confirmed the rumours, but the Cruel Summer hitmaker has yet to reveal why she employed such lengthy measures to stay hidden.
Back in 2016, Taylor was in the middle of a huge controversy involving her, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West. The rapper had claimed he gained Taylor’s permission to use her name in his explicit song Famous, and his then-wife Kim even leaked audio of Kanye speaking to the Grammy-winning singer about the track. However, Taylor hit back, and denied she had given permission, which kicked off a bitter war of words between the trio.

Then, bizarre rumours began to swirl, suggesting Taylor was so determined to stay out of the spotlight as the Kanye/Kim feud rumbled on, that she was being carried around in suitcases by her entourage.

Eagle-eyed fans then scoured paparazzi photos showing some male members of her team carrying huge suitcases out of her New York apartment, with many speculating that the singer was inside. Her friend Zayn Malik seemingly confirmed the rumours in an interview in 2018, as he told British Vogue that she was inside the luggage being carried by her bodyguards. “She was travelling around in a suitcase,” he said when asked how Taylor managed to avoid paparazzi and unwanted attention.

The singer was also at the centre of reports suggesting she and then-boyfriend Joe Alwyn donned garish disguises in New York to avoid attention from fans in 2019.
The mysterious couple wore matching bright pink wigs and covered their faces entirely with scarves as they were papped by photographers who believed they were Taylor and Joe. At the time, the couple were keen to hide away from fans, leading Swifties convinced that the unusual duo in New York were in fact Taylor and Joe. However, that theory was later dismissed as the 22 hitmaker was in London at the time, with Taylor partying at the Cats wrap party.

Audience members in Texas filmed a seemingly inconspicuous cleaning cart being wheeled backstage by members of Taylor’s team, with video circulating on social media revealing Taylor emerging from the cart to kick off her sold-out gig. And in February, the singer was at it again as footage captured by a fan went viral on Twitter/X as it reportedly showed Taylor being pushed backstage in a very similar cleaning cart, only for her to later emerge to prepare for her opening track, Miss Americana and the Heartbreak Prince. Never change, Tay, never change.
