MYSTERY surrounds the discovery of a dismembered body inside a suitcase dumped under a Parisian bridge.

Firefighters made the grim discovery under the Austerlitz bridge after they were called to put out a fire on Saturday.

A murder investigation was launched, BFMTV reports.

In a bizarre twist, the victim's carer, a 34-year-old man turned himself in the following morning.

The man is said to have told cops he was the disabled victim's carer and claimed the two of them had a dispute, according to French radio station Europe1.

The Paris public prosecutor’s office said: "He has been remanded into custody for murder.

"Numerous investigations are underway and the person concerned has not yet been interviewed."

They confirmed the body had been found "at the foot of the Austerlitz bridge" adding that a murder investigation had been handed over to the criminal brigade of the Paris judicial police.

Citing a source close to the investigation, Le Parisien reported that the body of “an adult male” was "in several pieces" and missing the “upper and lower limbs”.

An investigation continues.

The mangled remains of Fernando Pérez Algaba, 39, had horrifically been dumped by the water in Ingeniero Budge, Argentina.
