There are a few sporting injuries that have left people writhing in pain over the years.

Anderson Silva's horrific leg break against Chris Weidman at UFC 168 and Evander Holyfield's bitten ear in his second bout with Mike Tyson are just a couple of incidents that have left viewers wincing at their screens over the years. But there are some far worse injuries that you can suffer as a professional athlete depending on the sport you play.

Most men will say that a boot in the privates is one of the worst pains a person can feel. But it won't even scratch the tip of the iceberg of what a frozen penis feels like - as infamously suffered by skier Remi Lindholm not once, but twice.

The 26-year-old cross-country skier from Finland has enjoyed some of the world's biggest and best slopes in his time as a professional, even representing his country at the 2022 Winter Olympics. But the highs of his career thus far haven't come without their lows - one of which he suffered at the aforementioned event in Beijing.

His member was nullified during the reduced 30km event after an unexpected cold ran across the Chinese hosting capital, telling Finnish outlet IL after the event: "You can guess which body part was a little bit frozen when I finished. It was one of the worst competitions I've been in. It was just about battling through."

Lindholm would go on to describe the pain as "unbearable" as he started to acclimatise to normal conditions - but it wasn't even the first time that he'd endured the embarrassing injury. That's because the previous year, he had suffered the same affliction when his nether region was targeted by icy conditions in Ruka, Finland.

While a heat bag was supposedly on hand to thaw the skier's penis after the race, Lindholm would express concern for his prospects of having children in the future. And Lindholm isn't even the only man who has suffered a frozen penis on the slopes either - with Swede Calle Halfvarsson urging people to stay away from the sport last year after he suffered the same fate.

The skier was competing at a 20km World Cup event across Ruka when disaster struck. He toldSwedish publication Expressen: "I have frozen my penis. For real. Damn, I had to lie in there [warm-up tent] for 10 minutes to warm it up. It hurts so damn much. It's terrible.

"It's lucky that I'm going to have my second child because this is going to be difficult in the future if I'm going to continue like this." When asked if he could put the pain into words, Halfvarsson said: "No. Those who know, they know. But you should get a tip from me. Stay away from it, because it is the worst thing you can experience."

So there you have it, if you're planning on skiing anytime soon, it would be wise to take a heat back just in case things start getting a little chilly around the willy.
