It's not the first price glitch to have shoppers salivating

BARGAIN hunters ransacked Asda's shelves after a blunder saw thousands of makeup products priced at just five per cent of their retail value.

The supermarket giant mistakenly promoted Rimmel and Max Factor products at ‘3 for £2’ instead of ‘3 for 2’.

Thrifty shoppers stormed stores across the UK to stockpile lipstick, eyeliner and foundation - which normally cost up to £13 each - for pennies, with some saving themselves as much as £2,000.

Panicked staff resorted to barricading the shelves with cardboard and clingfilm to stop customers cashing in, while security reportedly made people surrender their prized products.

The shock price drop is understood to have impacted all of Asda’s 342 UK supermarkets and its website.

Shocking pictures show shoppers clutching receipts as long as their arm, with one displaying an eye-watering saving of £2,065.60. Others filled bags with more than 500 makeup products, which they can flog online for over 10 times the price they paid.

The incorrect multibuy offer was still active on Asda’s website on Thursday night.

For all 180 items available online, the cart total came to just £120.06 - averaging 67p per product - showing a saving of £1,179.14.

A spokesman for reselling group LiveCops discovered it on Thursday.

He told The Sun: “We have bots scanning for price drops so we notified our group. Suddenly everyone was making a mad dash to Asda.

“One of those make-up stands probably has around £5,000-to £10,000-worth of stock at retail price that they’ve mistakenly made ‘95 per cent off’. Some people have really hit the jackpot.”

An anonymous Facebook user, posting to "extreme couponing and bargains UK group", shared a snap of a huge makeup bundle that was bought online and delivered.

The post said: "Wow they came! Shocked!

"It will keep me and my two teenage girls going for a while."

A screenshot of the Asda basket showed £276.87 in multibuy savings.

Commenting on the post, Alison Dalziel said: "I have done mine I hope it comes."

A previous post by Katie Faulkner implored members of the group to jump on the shock sale.

She said: "Everyone check Asda all this for £25.51 instead of £272."

Others said they were less fortunate.

Summer Hickman commented: "They cancelled my order when I placed one this morning.

"They said everything was unavailable but still charged me collection fee."

Asda was contacted for comment.
