Royal expert Katie Nicholl addressed King Charles' reaction to Prince Harry rushing over to see him, and gave some insights into where she thinks the father and son's relationship stands.
Tensions rose between Prince Harry and the royal family after he and his wife Meghan Markle stepped down as senior royals in January 2020, with the intent to divide their time between North America and the U.K., hoping to become financially independent while supporting the Queen.
Harry then released his memoir, Spare, in January 2023 revealing explosive details about the royal family causing even more friction between him and his kin. However, Harry seemed to have a change of heart upon hearing of Charles' cancer diagnosis and rushed to London.

Meghan Markle 'to unleash her own memoirs' as Prince Harry's drops next weekThe expert shared some details about what happened after Prince Harry found out about his father’s cancer diagnosis and what led to their private meeting in February 2024. "His father personally telephoned him to inform him of his cancer diagnosis, [and] Harry jumped on the overnight flight from Los Angeles," Katie told ET.
She said that Prince Harry "came straight to Clarence House for what we understand was a brief meeting with his father."
On whether or not the King is ready to make amends with his son, Katie says that she believes the royal "desperately wants to reconcile with Harry." Adding: "The king would have been hugely relieved and comforted by the fact that Harry flew over. [It was likely] emotional and probably quite difficult for both of them."
Katie revealed that the King is still accepting of his son, no matter what Harry included in Spare. "I certainly think we’re seeing a real thawing in the relations between Charles and his son," she said. "I know, for Charles, the door has always been left open regardless of some of the things Harry has written… I was told by a source very close to the king that whatever Harry has said or done, he loves his son."
While the couple has shared some of their negative experiences while they were part of the royal family, Katie says that King Charles also wants to work on his relationship with Meghan. Charles is also wanting to have a relationship with his grandchildren, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
"He wants to repair that relationship and indeed have a relationship with his daughter-in-law and his grandchildren," the royal expert continued. "I think when someone has a serious health scare like this, it does make you reassess things and I think that’s why Harry got on the first flight he could."
Things seem to be progressing but not when it comes to reconciling with his brother, Prince William. "I think that’s less certain," Katie said regarding a reunion between the brothers.
