Some people are so sneaky.

You're not obliged to swap the plane seat you've booked with someone who asked, but often we might do it to be nice. However, one man refused to give up his chosen seat on a recent flight - and when he realised why she was asking, he was glad he did.

Mark Roberts took to TikTok recently to warn others after he was asked to move seats with a woman, who claimed she wanted to sit closer to her daughter - but he thinks it was for a completely different reason. "If someone asks you to switch seats with them on a commercial flight be cautious, because they don't always have the best intentions," warned the content creator.

After refusing to switch seats, looking back Mark is "so glad" he said no. Explaining the situation, Mark said he was one of the first to board the flight and the "only one" on his row. He continued: "As soon as I sit down this random lady taps me on the shoulder and she's just like 'my seat is right here', pointing to the seat next to me, 'but my daughter is a couple of aisles up, would you mind switching with her so we can sit next to each other?'."

Mark explained that 'red flags' had started going off in his head, because he was sitting in Premium Economy, and the only people in front of him were in First Class - which would mean the daughter was sitting there. The content creator felt it was weird the woman didn't tell him that information up front, for example by saying: "Do you want my First Class seat?"

He asked to see the ticket, but the woman said her daughter had it, who she also went on to describe as eight years old with "brown hair and pig tails". Mark replied to the woman, saying: "I'd be more than happy to switch with you if you just show me that ticket."

Then, all of a sudden, Mark explained the woman got "super lethargic" and "plops her bag into the overhead bin" and "falls" into the seat next to him and says: "Being a mother is so hard, I've been walking around all day, I'm sorry, I'm just so tired."

Eventually she said her daughter was sitting in seat 7A if he wanted to switch with her, but Mark felt like she had "pulled the number of of thin air," so he politely refused, saying he would rather stay in his seat. "After I said that she became visibly upset and was like, 'you wouldn't understand what it takes to be a mother'."

However, soon a "random dude" came down the aisle and tapped the woman on the shoulder, and told her she was sitting in his seat - and showed his ticket as proof.

Mark then realised the woman's actual seat was far down the back end of the plane. He was left wondering if he left, would she have just 'taken it' and refused to give it back?

In the comment section, people explained what they assumed would have happened. One person said: "She refuses to give the seat back 'because you gave it to her' and then you get sat in the back of the plane so they stay on schedule."

Another added: "I assume she would’ve just taken it and refused to give it back."

However, Mark added you shouldn't 'always' assume someone asking you to move 'is a scam', claiming "because I feel there are genuine families that just want to sit together".
