Warnock will return to the club 31 years after he saved Torquay from relegation from the Football League by winning three of his nine matches in charge.

The experienced boss' managerial career spans over five decades having managed 16 different clubs with successful spells for the likes of Crystal Palace and Sheffield United.

Within English football, he holds the record for the most promotions, with eight, and the most games as a professional manager, with 1,626, beating the previous record of 1,601.

And now he will look to revamp the National League South outfit who were saved from extinction by the Bryn Consortium, which is made up of local businessmen.

The group consists of Torquay fans Michael Westcott, Mark Bowes-Cavanagh, Tom Allen, Rob Hawes and Simon Robinson.
