Thomas Frank has insisted he is happy at Brentford but admitted he is flattered to be linked with Manchester United.

Frank has emerged as a strong contender to replace Erik ten Hag at United this summer after being included on Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s shortlist of managers. Ten Hag is expected to be replaced as United boss this summer, with Ratcliffe, Sir Dave Brailsford and their INEOS team looking to make big changes in an effort to revive the struggling club.

United are eighth in the Premier League and were knocked out of the Champions League in the group stages. They could finish the campaign with a flourish by beating Manchester City in the FA Cup final on May 25, but that is unlikely to be enough for Ten Hag to keep his job.

Frank has been with Brentford since 2018 and has built a strong connection with the west London club, who he won the Championship play-off final with in 2021 to achieve promotion. The 50-year-old has steered the Bees clear of the relegation zone once again, with Brentford 16th, 13 points above the drop, ahead of their final game of the season against Newcastle on Sunday.

“I’m really happy where I am. It’s close to being the perfect club to be at,” Frank told Danish outlet Bold. “I can see myself being here for many years to come. I’m close to the owner, to the sporting director. Everyone around the club. Brentford is a club where I really feel comfortable.”

Asked about the links to other clubs, he added: “Immediately, I think it’s flattering and a recognition of what I do. And I’m glad that others recognise the work we do at Brentford. That said, it’s not a one-man show about what’s going on at Brentford.”

He added: “I’m not going to comment on the rumours that have been about me. You shouldn’t believe everything you read in the papers.”

Frank is admired by INEOS who like his href="https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/thomas-frank-liverpool-klopp-replacement-32119351">Speaking back in February when he was among those being discussed as replacements for Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool, Frank said: “There’s a lot of rumours out there. I think we all have kind of an ego and the ego likes that little bit of sugar but at the end of the day I’m at Brentford. I’m very happy here.

"Do I have ambitions? Yes. Am I going to stay at Brentford forever? Maybe but probably not. So who knows what’s going to happen in the future. What I know is that I’m here at Brentford and I’m very happy with it.”
