Prince William surprised onlookers when he made a 'cheeky' remark to a couple celebrating their 41st wedding anniversary during his trip to Cornwall last week.

The heir was on a two-day visit to the southwest of England - his first overnight trip since his wife Princess Kate received her cancer diagnosis.

And he appeared happy and relaxed as he chatted to members of the public at Fistral Beach in Newquay on Thursday.

Among the wellwishers was a couple from Bristol, who were visiting in celebration of their wedding anniversary. A clip of their interaction with William has been shared on X, formerly known as Twitter, which racked up more than 198,000 views.

"Are you guys on holiday or are you local?" the Prince asks, before congratulating them on their anniversary.

After the couple revealed they were from Bristol but taking a trip for their 41st anniversary, William shared his well-wishes.

Putting one hand on his hip, he leans in and asks if they have "any smart plans tonight" before cheekily wiggling his eyebrows. "That was Tuesday night," the man quips back, prompting William to ask his wife, "Good plans?!" with a laugh.

People were quick to comment on the funny clip. "William's eyebrows and smile were doing all the talking!" one wrote. A second echoed: "I think we know what's on his mind when he asked that question!" "He's just so relatable, so lovely," remarked a third.

During his time away last week, William was asked about his wife Princess Kate as she continues to receive cancer treatment. "She's doing well, thanks," he told one wellwisher, later sharing: "The children are very jealous that I am here... Maybe we might come later in the year."

According to royal expert Jennie Bond, William's decision to spend time away from the family home is a good sign.

"It's great news that William feels relaxed enough to stay away for a night. I've no doubt that Catherine's parents will be staying with her, but even so it must be a step in the right direction," she told OK!.

"Hopefully Catherine is feeling stronger every day and, with the sun now shining, she'll be able to enjoy the great outdoors which, for her, has always been restorative."

During his visit, William also spent time on the Isles of Scilly. The islands off the Cornish coast are a special place for William and his family, with William and Kate known to have spent time there in the summer months with Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.

The future King has a long history with the islands, having holidayed there as a boy with his parents Charles and Diana and younger brother Harry.
