A jockey charged with betting offences was alleged to have told a punter to ‘have 10K on mine’.
Michael Poy, 25, was issued with 19 charges last month following a betting investigation by Racing Victoria, Australia, which also involved another rider Lewis German and two registered owners, one of whom is professional punter.
A directions hearing held by a Victoria Racing Tribunal on Friday was told Poy allegedly sent a text to a professional punter to lay one of German’s mounts for A$70,000 to $80,000 (between £36,000 and £41,000) running at Swan Hill in August 2022.
And he allegedly texted professional punter Noah Brash to ‘have 10K on mine’, Mr Scorefield, to beat the horse German was riding, American Russ, in the same race, according to a report by
It was also claimed he sent another message later the same day advising Brash to lay another of Poy’s mounts, Pill Box, to win more than A$12,000 (£6,00).

Mr Scorefield finished third, in front of of American Russ, who was 11th, and later on the card in Pill Box finished sixth. None of the defendants have yet been required to enter any pleas.
Poy is accused of betting on outcomes of a race in which he was riding, as well engaging 'in an action or practice which was dishonest, corrupt and/or improper'.

Poy and Brash were alleged to have used a secure end-to-end encryption messaging app to send the messages.
The tribunal granted Racing Victoria’s request for another directions hearing into the charges, after seeking an order to obtain phone records for two phone numbers it was alleged were used by Poy and Brash.
Poy has ridden nearly 400 winners and has since moved to Western Australia but has not ridden since April while German, also 25, has been out of the saddle since September 2023.
