Taylor Swift's ex Joe Alwyn has spoken about the end of their relationship in an interview

Joe Alwyn has spoken about his separation from Taylor Swift and being the subject of public attention, following speculation that he's referenced on her most recent album.

The actor, now 33, and the singer-songwriter, now 34, were understood to have been in a relationship for six years prior to the news that they had split up last year. Taylor's dating Travis Kelce now and Joe's believed to have moved on too.

There's been speculation that Joe is referenced on Taylor's album the Tortured Poets Department, which was released in April. The album went on to top the charts in the UK and it was later announced that it had broken several records.

Weeks since then, Joe has now addressed being the subject of speculation and his separation from the Brit Award winner. He suggested that the end of any long-term relationship can be "hard" to navigate but stated that the former couple's break-up was also "dissected" following the news.

As reported by PA Media, he told the Sunday Times Style Magazine: "I would hope that anyone and everyone can empathise and understand the difficulties that come with the end of a long, loving, fully committed relationship of over six and a half years. That is a hard thing to navigate."

Joe - whose acting credits include films like the Favourite (2018) - said it's "unusual and abnormal" for a break-up to "suddenly" be publicised within days and for the world to then be able to "weigh in" on it. He said it was "speculated on," "dissected" and "pulled out of shape beyond recognition".

Further sharing his thoughts, he told the outlet amid his ex Taylor's the Eras Tour being in the UK: "There is always going to be a gap between what is known and what is said." The actor said that he has "made [his] peace" with that.

He said that both him and Taylor "decided to keep the more private details" of their relationship "private," adding that it was "never something to commodify". Joe then went on to state that he sees "no reason to change that now".

Opening up about life a year on from the news of their break-up, Joe said in the interview that he feels "fortunate" to be in a "really great place" both professionally and in his personal life. He commented that he feels "really good".

The interview comes amid Taylor's ongoing the Eras Tour, which has reached the UK this month. She has already performed in Edinburgh and Liverpool as part of the tour, which launched last year. Taylor is set to visit Cardiff and London in the coming days. She is scheduled to then head to Ireland, before performing elsewhere in Europe.
