Kate Ferdinand is "so proud" of her stepson Lorenz.

The 17-year-old son of Kate's husband Rio Ferdinand followed in his father's footsteps, playing football for Brighton FC's under 18s squad. He joined the Seagulls as the U18s goalkeeper back in 2022, and was amongst award-winners at a recent ceremony.

Former TOWIE star Kate went along to celebrate the youngster's achievement before Lorenz moves back home for the summer after leaving to pursue his footy career. She took to Instagram to praise the teen's success on the pitch, posting a glam selfie.

Stood with Lorenz at the Brighton and Hove Albion Players' Awards, she wrote: "And just like that the season is over. Such a proud moment watching you get your award last night. It's been a joy to watch you grow and I feel so lucky to be on this journey with you."

Alongside the snap, she added: "I love you so much and we are all so happy to have you home for the summer before the hard work continues." Kate also uploaded a picture of her three-year-old son Cree, who was sporting Brighton's football kit for the occasion.

"Lorenz and Tate's no 1 supporter in his football kit," she added. Gaining recognition for her appearance in The Only Way Is Essex, from 2015 until 2017, Kate met former Manchester United player Rio following the death of his first wife, Rebecca Ellison, who was also the mother of Rio's first three children - Lorenz, 17, Tate, 15, and Tia, 12.

Rebecca passed away from breast cancer at the age of 34, prompting Rio to document his wife's illness and his subsequent bereavement in a book titled Thinking Out Loud (2017), which he co-wrote with Decca Aitkenhead. Kate and Rio tied the knot in 2019, and the ceremony was attended by his children and their close family members.

The couple then announced they were expecting their first child in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 and Cree was born on December 18 that same year. While she was happy to build her own family, Kate admitted she'd also had her worries about how well Cree would settle into his blended family with Lorenz, Tate and Tia as his half-siblings.

However, Kate quickly revealed that she had nothing to worry about and that Cree only managed to bring the family closer. "When Cree came we were a bit nervous because he's my first biological child so we didn't know how he would fit into the mix, but it's just been great and has brought us all closer," she said on the podcast Motherkind in 2023.
