Son Heung-min has credited Stefan Ortega for preventing him from scoring in a crucial moment in Tottenham's 2-0 loss to Manchester City on Tuesday night.

Spurs headed into the match knowing that a win against the Premier League champions would open the door for arch-rivals Arsenal to win their first domestic title in 20 years at the weekend.

Ange Postecoglou's side, on the other hand, were chasing points for Champions League qualification. The situation left some members of the fanbase split with some unable to bear the thought of handing Arsenal a golden opportunity to win the title.

With City winning 1-0 in the 85th minute, Son was played in on goal. A draw would have left Arsenal top on goal difference ahead of Sunday's season finale, but he was thwarted superbly by Ortega as City went on to win.

Reflecting on the miss in an interview with The Standard, Son said: "I'm also human. The keeper made a really good decision and made himself really big.

"But I take the responsibility not to score that big chance for the team, because the team was working really hard and trying to get a good result."

While Son refused to dwell on the incident, Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher has claimed that the striker's miss against City will "haunt" Arsenal fans forever.

Speaking on a Sky Sports podcast, he said: "Tottenham gave Man City more problems than I’ve probably seen anybody give them for a long time, in terms of the chances they created. Ortega, tonight alone, has won them the Premier League title.

"Obviously a lot’s gone into that over the season but when you look at this game, if he doesn’t make those saves at 1-0, Arsenal will win the league. That’s how close it is. When I think of me a few years ago as a Liverpool fan, watching Vincent Kompany put that shot in against Leicester, that is that moment now for Arsenal fans.

"That Son chance is the moment Arsenal fans will remember in five, 10 years’ time. Even if they win the title in the next five years – and they’ve got a chance of doing that because they’re a great team with a great manager – that chance will still haunt them."
