Giovanni Pernice's Strictly Come Dancing co-stars rushed to congratulate his former dance partner Rose Ayling-Ellis after she shared a career update.

It comes as it was reported that Giovanni left the competition for a 'fresh start' after he faced allegations over his tough training methods from previous celebrity partners, including actress Amanda Abbington. However, one of his former partners - Strictly winner Rose - has been close pals with him since she won the competition in 2021.

Amid the chaos, Rose took to her Instagram page to announce her new role in the upcoming series Reunion. Alongside a screenshot of the news headline confirming the casting, she wrote: "I’m so excited to be joining William Mager’s Reunion and to be working alongside such a talented cast, whose work I have long admired.

"It is a very special project and an important moment for the deaf community's representation on TV." Strictly dancers and former stars were quick to congratulate the soap actress on the huge news. Dan Walker posted: "YES ROSE!!!" while dancer Nancy Xu added a few heart eyes emojis.

Rhys Stephenson, Stacey Dooley and Karen Hauer posted clapping emojis while Vito Coppola wrote: "Congraaaaaats," with a few emojis. Rose, 29, will appear in the "emotional thriller of revenge and redemption" where the majority of the cast and crew are either Deaf or use British Sign Language (BSL).

Reunion follows the story of Daniel Brennan (played by Matthew Gurney), a Deaf man who was recently released from prison and struggles to "fully integrate into the hearing world". According to the synopsis, Daniel is 'shunned by his closest friends and the wider deaf community following his heinous crimes.' The character works to make things right while finding out the truth behind everything that happened before he landed in prison. He only has a close connection with his daughter Carly (played by Lara Peake).

Bad Sister star Anne-Marie Duff plays Christine, someone who is desperate to learn the truth behind what Daniel did. Eddie Marsan plays Stephen Renworth, her boyfriend while Strictly winner Rose plays Miri, Christine's daughter. Other stars featuring in the show include Stephen Collins, Ace Mahbaz, Sophie Stone and Olive Gray.

Meanwhile, it was recently reported that Giovanni quit Strictly despite being in talks for another series. The BBC was said to be "very keen" on continuing their collaboration with the 33-year-old Italian. A leaked internal memo that's been doing the rounds doesn't feature Giovanni's name among this year's roster of professional dancers.

The BBC said: "The Professional Dancers for Strictly Come Dancing 2024 will be announced in due course."
