The late Queen Elizabeth was known for a few fashion staples: brightly coloured outfits and matching custom hats, and her trusty Launer handbags. But there was one little-known fashion trend that the late Queen strictly stopped buying a few years before her death - and her daughter-in-law Queen Camilla was quick to follow the beloved late monarch's lead and axe the major staple from her wardrobe too.

The late Queen decided to stop investing in this particular trend because of some of the ethical concerns surrounding the products, and activists were thrilled that she decided to take the step to stop buying any more of it going forward back in 2019. Camilla, who has been open about her affection for the late Queen Elizabeth, has taken inspiration from her mother-in-law and announced she will be doing the same.

The item in question that Queen Camilla won't be buying anymore of, the same move Queen Elizabeth previously made, is animal fur. Animal rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) recently received correspondence from Buckingham Palace confirming that Queen Camilla, "will not procure any new fur garments" - per the BBC.

"This comes with the Queen's warmest wishes," the letter also read. The animal rights group has said they are pleased that Camilla has made this commitment to avoid buying more fur products, saying they will be "toasting Queen Camilla with a glass of the finest claret" and the managing director of PETA added: "It's right and proper for the British monarchy to reflect British values by recognising that fur has no place in our society".

Queen Elizabeth sent a similar message back in 2019 when she decided to err against wearing fur going for, with her dresser and close confidant Angela Kelly confirming that "If Her Majesty is due to attend an engagement in particularly cold weather, from 2019 onwards fake fur will be used to make sure she stays warm". Buckingham Palace confirmed that this was the case, noting that "As new outfits are designed for the Queen, any fur used will be fake".

PETA also threw their support behind the late Queen's decision, per The Independent, saying at the time: "We're raising a glass of gin and Dubonnet to the Queen's compassionate decision to go fur-free. In 2019, no one can justify subjecting animals to the agony of being caged for life or caught in steel traps, electrocuted, and skinned for toxic fur items."
