Alexis Mac Allister has enjoyed an impressive first season in Liverpool ’s midfield but that has not stopped reports, emanating from his native Argentina, of Real Madrid lining up a move for the World Cup winner next year.
And according to claims from the former Brighton star’s home, he has a £60m release clause that could be triggered by the Spanish giants. But Real are expected to hold fire until the summer of 2025 with their budget for the coming off season focused on Kylian Mbappe’s pending arrival from Paris Saint-Germain.
The La Liga champions have also got a young French core in midfield - Aurelien Tchouameni and the versatile Eduardo Camavinga - alongside the veteran presence of Toni Kroos and Luka Modric. The Croatian is in talks over a one-year extension but it is suggested that Mac Allister is being eyed up as his eventual replacement.
However the release clause report adds another layer of concern as Liverpool enter a tricky period of transition with Arne Slot arriving as head coach following Jurgen Klopp ’s departure after Sunday’s Premier League closer against Wolves. Midfielder Thiago Alcantara and centre back Joel Matip have also been confirmed as departing.
Speaking in his final pre-match press conference after almost a decade holding the reins at Anfield, Klopp said: “I don’t think it was a quick nine years. I really think it was the opposite of a waste of time, we used everything.

Slot’s appointment as Klopp’s successor is expected to be officially confirmed by the club soon, though the departing Feyenoord boss has already said he will be at Liverpool next season.

As former Reds defender turned pundit Jamie Carragher said recently: "From Feyenoord to Liverpool is a huge jump and I think it shows at this moment that there's probably a dearth of real top managers out there, when you look at who Liverpool are going for.
"Initially it was Xabi Alonso - it's only his first full season as a manager - then there was talk of Ruben Amorim from Sporting, who's only 39."
