Kylian Mbappe may have played his final match for Paris Saint-Germain after he was not included in the squad for Sunday's Ligue 1 fixture against Metz.

The sought-after forward, 25, recently confirmed that he will leave the French champions as a free agent this summer. Mbappe is expected to join Real Madrid, although he is yet to confirm his next move.

PSG have already retained their Ligue 1 title but Mbappe, the club's all-time leading scorer with 256 goals, will play no part in their final league match of the season.

PSG have declined to comment on Mbappe's absence, leading to further speculation. The World Cup winner has not been included on the list of players unavailable through injury.

With Mbappe not in line to feature at Metz, next weekend's French Cup final against Lyon represents his final opportunity to pull on a PSG shirt before he embarks on his next chapter.

Mbappe was believed to be close to joining Real Madrid on a free transfer in the summer of 2022 before changing his mind at the eleventh hour and signing a new contract.

Two years on he will depart, and Mbappe outlined in an Instagram video that he planned to say farewell to PSG's fans in the coming weeks.

He said: "Hi everyone, it's Kylian. I wanted to speak to you. I've always said that I would speak with you when the time comes and so I wanted to announce to you all that it's my last year at Paris Saint-Germain. I will not extend and the adventure will come to an end in a few weeks. I will play my last game at the Parc des Princes on Sunday.

"It's a lot of emotions, many years where I had the chance and the great honour to be a member of the biggest French club, one of the best in the world which allowed me to arrive here, to have my first experience in a club with a lot of pressure, to grow as a player of course, by being alongside some of the best in history, some of the greatest champions, to meet a lot of people, to grow as a man as well with all the glory and the mistakes I've made."
