Lorraine Kelly has revealed the gender of daughter Rosie’s baby as she said she “can’t wait” to be a grandma.
The 64-year-old TV legend let slip that her beloved dachshund Ruby is about to become a “big sister” during her latest interview, hinting that Rosie is having a baby girl. The tot is thought to be due sometime in September and the whole family are “thrilled”.
Unable to contain her excitement, Lorraine said of the happy news: “This is the most exciting thing to happen to our family, well, since Rosie was born. Last night, I felt the baby kick for the first time, which was extraordinary. It made it feel real.”
Rosie, born in 1994, is Lorraine and cameraman husband Steve Smith’s only child. The 29-year-old, who turns 30 next month, found out she was expecting on New Year’s Eve and joked it was “right after buying loads of alcohol and a cold meat platter, which I then couldn’t touch”.
She recently moved in with her partner – also a Steve – and the pair bought their first home in Islington, North London. Now they are excited for the next chapter in their lives as Rosie admitted they “both wanted to become parents young, so that our parents can be around as much as possible.” And the baby is likely to be called something Scottish in a nod to Rosie’s heritage.
Lorraine Kelly says she underwent surgery over Christmas breakIn a joint chat with HELLO! magazine, proud granny-to-be Lorraine revealed she had an inkling something was up before Rosie announced her pregnancy back in April. She shared: “I thought she was looking a wee bit peaky, but I had no idea it was that, so it was the best possible surprise. Of course, I cried when I found out – and Rosie’s dad Steve is thrilled to bits too.”
Though become a grandparent is something Lorraine has always wanted, she said she “never wanted to put Rosie under any pressure”, but now her wish is about to become true in a matter of months she “couldn’t be more excited”. She added: “I’m very happy with being called Granny. I know some people don’t like that, but I think it’s a badge of honour.”
And as Lorraine gears up to become a granny, she let slip her real name – much to the amusement of fans. The daytime TV star, who recently won a BAFTA Special Award for her services to broadcasting, revealed she was actually going to be ‘Granny Smith’, like the famous apple - as Smith is Lorraine’s married name. She joked: "I'm actually going to be Granny Smith!"
Gushing about her only daughter, Lorraine said in another interview with Bella Magazine that she'll have to be careful not to "interfere too much" and ensure she's not "too much of a nuisance". But she revealed her and Rosie share such a close bond that they would have no issues communicating if things were getting too intense.
She said: "I've just said to Rosie, 'I'm here for you, anything you need.' She's good though, we've got that kind of relationship that if I was annoying her, she would just say 'Enough, go home'." Lorraine added that her daughter is "going to be the best mum" and said: "she's much more grown-up than I am."
