Manchester City mocked Liverpool ’s ‘This Means More’ slogan on social media after being crowned Premier League champions.

Pep Guardiola ’s side were handed the title on the final day of the season with a 3-1 win against West Ham. It now means that they have become the first side ever to win four Premier League titles in succession.

While the final whistle kicked off the celebrations at the Etihad, the Blues’ social media team could not resist a dig at former title rivals Liverpool. The club tweeted “THIS MEANS FOUR,” alongside four trophy emojis in what appears to be a direct response to the Reds’ club motto of ‘This Means More’.

It also follows a verbal exchange between City striker Erling Haaland and Trent Alexander-Arnold earlier this season. Speaking ahead of a meeting between the two sides, the Liverpool star claimed the success at Anfield did indeed mean more on Merseyside.

He said: "We’re up against a machine that’s built to win – that’s the simplest way to describe City and their organisation. Looking back on this era, although they’ve won more titles than us and have probably been more successful, our trophies will mean more to us and our fanbase because of the situations at both clubs, financially. How both clubs have built their teams and the manner in which we’ve done it, probably means more to our fans.”

Haaland responded to that claim by poking fun at Alexander-Arnold for not winning a treble. The Norwegian said: “If he wants to say that, okay.

“I’ve been here one year and I won the treble. It was quite a nice feeling, I don’t think he knows exactly this feeling. So, yeah, that’s what I felt last season and it was quite nice, so yeah.”

Jurgen Klopp also had his say on the verbal battle between the pair and claimed he approved of Alexander-Arnold’s comments. The German said: “I am not sure how often we have to say in this club how often we respect City.

“Trent understands that but he is a Liverpool fan, he stood on the sides before the pitch. Our slogan ‘This Means More’ means it means more to us.

The outgoing Liverpool boss added: “Man City are the most successful in years and maybe Europe and it means a lot for their people I am sure. Maybe for us, it’s because we didn’t win that many. It’s not that we won five and then six and the fifth was better.

“You love these interviews when someone says what they think and the whole world [reacts]. He’s still allowed to think what he wants. Nothing wrong with what Trent said in my view.’”
