A British tourist allegedly forced to have sex by a bar worker in Majorca was allegedly gang-raped and the ‘sex attack’ filmed on a mobile phone, it emerged today.

Initial weekend reports pointed to a bar manager forcing himself on the teenager in the street after plying her with alcohol in S’Illot, a small tourist town on the island’s south east coast, while two friends watched and did nothing to prevent the alleged sex attack.

He was arrested shortly after the 19-year-old raised the alarm after returning to her hotel as police hunted for the other two suspects.

Today it emerged all three men had been held over what officials are now describing as a “multiple” sexual assault in a storeroom area behind the bar.

Officials revealed today they were remanded in custody after a closed court hearing in the eastern Majorcan town of Manacor yesterday.

Well-placed sources said the bar employee was a waiter, not a manager, and investigators had “incriminating” footage seized from the suspects’ phones showing what had happened.

They allegedly took it in turns to sexually assault the British tourist, described by insiders as being “very drunk” at the time, in the storeroom area.

A court official confirmed: “The head of Court of Instruction Number Two in Manacor, acting as a duty court, yesterday remanded into custody the three detainees arrested over the multiple sexual assault in S’Illot.

“This court is expected to remit the case to Manacor’s Court of Instruction Number One which was the duty court the day the incident happened and is therefore the competent court to continue with the investigation.”

The alarm was raised in the early hours of Friday morning.

One well-placed source close to the criminal probe said the British holidaymaker only discovered the full extent of what had allegedly happened, and how many men are said to have raped her, when she ratified her police statement in court yesterday.

She had mentioned she believed more than one man had sexually assaulted her but wasn’t able to give officers precise details.

A female friend of the holidaymaker who had been looking for her is believed to have helped her out of the bar and got her back to their hotel.

Although initial reports said the man initially held was Spanish, it was confirmed today two of the suspects are Argentinian and a third is Colombian.

A spokesman for the Civil Guard said: “We can confirm the arrests of three men suspected of sexually assaulting a British tourist in S’Illott.

“They were handed over to a court which is now heading an ongoing investigation.”

On Friday the trial in the Majorcan capital Palma of two men accused of sexually assaulting and robbing a British tourist in Magaluf in March last year finished.

The pair are facing prison sentences of 20 and 27 years respectively if they are convicted of their crimes.

The three trial judges are expected to deliver their sentences in writing in the coming weeks.

A British 18-year-old was allegedly gang-raped at a hotel in Magaluf in the early hours of August 14 last year. Five French nationals and a Swiss man were arrested and remanded in jail pending an ongoing judicial investigation and a further two suspects subsequently held in France on European Arrest Warrants.

Earlier this month an RAF serviceman was arrested in Majorca after a British holidaymaker accused him of raping her at a four-star Magaluf hotel.

He was released and allowed to fly back to the UK, but told he remains under investigation, after his female accuser failed to ratify her police complaint in front of a judge.

A British tourist was handed a four-year prison sentence at a court in Palma earlier this year after confessing to raping a woman in a Magaluf hotel room.

Spanish public prosecutors said before David McPaul Wigging’s February 5 trial they wanted him jailed for nine years if convicted of the May 9 2023 sex attack.

The 43-year-old also struck a plea bargain deal through his lawyer ahead of the full trial.

It was confirmed he would receive a four-year prison sentence during a subsequent brief public hearing, although he will only serve two years behind bars.

The fact he was very drunk when he attacked his victim, who is also from the UK, was taken into account as a mitigating factor.

He will be expelled from Spain on May 8 next year once he has completed half of his sentence. The time he has already spent behind bars as a remand prisoner has been taken into account in determining the two-year time limit.

Wigging’s defence lawyer Fernando Mateas said at the time the plea bargain deal he had helped negotiate for his client meant he will be a free man after May 8 2025.
