Made In Chelsea star Jamie Laing has revealed his biggest wedding day regret one year after tying the knot to Sophie Habboo in a lavish Spanish ceremony.
The podcast power couple got married at the Chelsea Registry Office in London last April, before jetting off to Marbella on May 20 to celebrate the occasion in style. Speaking exclusively to The Mirror, Jamie shared any changes he would make to his magical day.
The 35-year-old said: "I would make the wedding bigger, my wife would probably make it much smaller. I would also have spent more time with Sophie. You’re running around the entire time and meeting and greeting people.
"My biggest wedding advice is to spend more time with your partner, and have pockets of time with each other because we didn’t do much of that. Another important part is table seating, you’ve got to really think about that."
This comes after Sophie surprised Jamie by officially changing her surname to Laing on the NewlyWeds podcast anniversary episode. In a romantic poem, the 30-year-old read out: "So happy anniversary from me, Mrs Sophie Laing. Yes, that’s right. I’ve officially changed my name."
Jermain Defoe sparks marriage split fear after spending Christmas away from wifeDiscussing the emotional moment, Jamie told the Mirror: "I’m pretty good at knowing what’s going on and Sophie surprised me on the podcast about the fact that she had changed her name. It was a pretty insane moment.
"I didn’t know she wanted to change it and she didn’t have to change it, it’s totally up to her. But the fact that she wanted to and she did, it was amazing. Being married is the greatest thing in the world, so I feel super lucky to be married to her because she is awesome."
Jamie recently took over from Jordan North on BBC Radio 1's Going Home slot, which he has hailed as a "dream come true". The Strictly Come Dancing star said: "It’s like the England squad of radio. So to do it with Vick and Katie and be a fully fledged broadcaster is awesome, I’m very proud of it."
Jamie added: "I wasn’t nervous taking over Radio 1. What I think about radio is this, you’re only borrowing that show. There have been so many great people who have done it in the past, Jordan was one of them. Hopefully I replace Jordan and I do the same job that all the other people have done. It’s just about doing the best that I can."
Jamie and Sophie kicked off their podcast in 2022, which was originally called NearlyWeds, where they shared their journey to the altar. As the pair recently wrapped up their UK podcast tour, we asked Jamie how they maintain a healthy work and relationship balance.
"I think if you work together like Sophie and I do, that’s not really spending quality time together", he continued. "So it’s so important to have those moments where you sit down and have dinner together without any distractions. That’s how we separate the work from the actual normal life."
However, Jamie described their current house hunting experience as a "complete and utter nightmare". He added: "We’ve put an offer in and we still haven't heard anything back. We are still in limbo at the moment and that is actually one of the most stressful things when you’re in limbo for a house. It’s really difficult because we have two different ideas on the actual house and the area as well."
The latest comes after Jamie teamed up with Fanta Orange Zero as its ‘Chief Flavour Officer’ (CFO) to boldly announce the new, irresistible taste of Fanta Orange Zero, by surprising shoppers in a playful supermarket stunt and enticing them to try the new taste, now available in stores nationwide.
Jamie said: "I’ve had so much fun in my latest role, enticing shoppers to try the new, irresistible taste of Fanta Orange Zero… it’s actually elite." However, Jamie confessed that he was "so nervous" jumping out at shoppers, as he continued: "I can’t handle the fact that I have to interrupt someone. It's the only thing that makes me nervous ever. I could run naked in the street, that doesn’t bother me, but interrupting someone’s day, that freaks me out."
