Gareth Southgate made a major blunder by leaving Marcus Rashford out of his England squad ahead of their clash against Serbia, according to an ex-Manchester United player.

The 26-year-old was dropped from the Three Lions squad for the tournament following an underwhelming club season. But former Serbia international Zoran Tosic said Rashford's omission can only spell good things for his nation who take on England on Sunday evening (June 16).

Tosic - who played just five games for the Red Devils from 2008 to 2010 - earned 76 caps for his country. Despite England's tag as one of the tournament favourites, he spelled out several issues the Three Lions have ahead of the tournament.

Speaking to OLBG, the 37-year-old who plays for Greek side Lamia, said: "The problem with England is that they have so many options for attacking players, so many good wingers and strikers, so you need to leave somebody out.

"Marcus Rashford has been left out, but he's a player who can change the game with one move. I would like to see him in any England squad." The CSKA Moscow legend was insistent that the Englishman can cause huge problems when not on form and remains a unique player in world football.

"I think even if he is not in the best mood and even if he doesn't have the best season, he has speed, he has fantastic finishing, fantastic cooperation with the teammates," he remarked before adding: "There are not a lot of players like him, not even in England, in the world with that pace and that quality. So for us it's good that he is not in the squad."

Southgate has plenty of decisions to make regarding his first team selection of the Euros, not least in midfield. The ex-Middlesbrough boss is widely expected to utilise Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold in the centre of the park in a bold move that should make the most of England's attacking threat.
