Gary Neville didn't hold back in his assessment of Manchester United over the last decade as he heaped praise on Rasmus Hojlund.

Neville was back in the ITV studio on Sunday afternoon before the Group C match between Slovenia and Denmark. The former Red Devils star was asked to give his thoughts on Danish forward Hojlund, who has just finished his first season at Old Trafford.

The young sensation, just 21, was United's most expensive signing last season, joining for a cool £72million from Bologna. While United may not have had they season they might have liked under Erik ten Hag, Hojlund shone brightly, netting am impressive 16 goals across 43 appearances for the Reds, including five in six Champions League games.

But it's not solely his goal-scoring prowesses that have drawn applause. Hojlund's tireless commitment and work ethic have marked him out from the rest, particularly when some of his team-mates aren't hitting those heights, reports the Manchester Evening News.

Neville, reflecting on United's tumultuous decade, highlighted the Danes resolve. "I think he has done well," said Neville. Adding: "When you think about what Manchester United have done to players in the last 10 years, they've broken seasoned internationals who have signed for big money."

"The lack of stability in the club over the last 12 months, all the changes, particularly up at the top, they've got basically no centre-forwards other than him. They've got wide players who were out of form that weren't giving him the type of service he needed."

"But he scored 16 goals in 35 starts and most of all, he stood up that kid. During the tough times in the season he was the one who I thought 'what a personality he's got.' That's all you need."

"I think he should have been supported more by having a more experienced striker alongside him but they couldn't get one in and it was all left to him. I think he's had a good first season and he's got the potential to be something pretty good."

Hojlund had only made 14 appearances for Denmark prior to Euro 2024, scoring seven goals. He'll be hoping to add to both of those columns as the Danes look to improve on their semi-final showing three years ago.
