Incest monster Josef Fritzl is to be placed under guardianship in Austria due to his dementia, it has been confirmed.

Depraved Frizl fathered seven children by his daughter Elisabeth while he kept her as a sex slave for 24 years in the basement of the family home in Amstetten about 80 miles west of the Austrian capital Vienna. The 89-year-old has been held in psychiatric detention in a high-security unit at Stein prison since he was sentenced to life imprisonment in 2009.

The Krems public prosecutor's office has said that Fritzl will be placed under guardianship, a process where a court will appoint another person to act and make decisions on his behalf because he has been deemed incapable of making them on his own. But Fritzl's lawyer, Astrid Wagner, told Austrian media that she intends to fight the process.

It is typically done to prevent the abuse of the person placed under guardianship, but Wagner considers the appointment of an adult representative to manage his affairs "not tenable," as he has no business to attend to and does not own any property.

Although Fritzl has "beginning dementia and delusional episodes", an adult representative is neither necessary nor justified, said the lawyer. Fritzl has been transferred from the correctional facility in Stein to a cell in the normal prison.

The transfer, based on a decision by a three-member panel of the Krems Regional Court, became legally binding at the end of May. In mid-May, a decision was also made on a general conditional release from the normal prison to freedom.

The authorities determined that this was "not possible for special preventive reasons", according to Austrian media. They added that, given the "unprecedented criminal energy in connection with the convicted crimes," it cannot be assumed that "future freedom from crime" will be guaranteed.

Fritzl has boasted of his intent to "roam free" on the Scottish Highlands if he is ever was released from prison in Austria. "I was filled with this wonderful, uplifting feeling, this sense of inspiration for this fantastic culture," he said according to The Sun. "And it was then I knew that when I get released, it is not Austria I want to stay [in], rather I want to emigrate to the UK. Above all I want to roam free on the wild Highlands of Scotland.

"For me the lush green fields of Wales are also very, very appealing. But the main thing is it's to the United Kingdom I am headed," he added in the interview. In January 2021, the UK government banned foreign criminals sentenced to at least one year in jail from entering the country.
