AN expert has revealed why you should always book the first flight of the day if you have severe allergies.

Many of us suffer from allergies, which can complicate travel plans.

But now an expert has revealed that for sufferers, the time of travel was a factor.

The expert points out that aircraft were at their cleanest in the morning following an over-night deep clean.

However, for anyone with a food allergy, a night flight might be preferable.

Flying at night reduced the amount of potential food allergy triggers on your flight.

Amena Warner, Head of Clinical Services, Allergy UK says: "Travelling with a food allergy does require extra precautions as airlines will have their own policy on food allergy management, and this may vary from airline to airline.

"It is important people are aware of the policy of the airline with which they are travelling.

"We advise proactively alerting the airline of allergy needs in advance of a trip and then, if possible, arriving early for the flight to confirm requests regarding seating and early boarding.

"Travelling with food allergies can be really challenging and it's so important that airlines, staff and passengers understand this and the risks involved for the person with the allergy."

BA recommends: "Ensure your medication is easily accessible throughout the flight, e.g. place it in the seat pocket or on you personally.

"Advise cabin crew and the people seated next to you of your allergy, where you have placed the medication and what to do in an emergency."

A flight attendant has revealed why you should always use the overhead locker in front of your seat.

Travel writer Emily Cappiello told how she was one of the last passengers to board her section on a flight from Toronto to New York.

She quickly realised there was no room in the overhead space for her bag.

To solve the issue she found the first empty space and then stored her bag above it, before returning to her seat.

However another passenger then complained that she had used his overhead space.

The flight attendant then solved the issue by storing the other passenger's briefcase in her closet.

Ann, a flight attendant, offered some expert thoughts on the subject.

She said: "As a passenger, I'd look for room in front of my seat. This is mostly for ease of deplaning.

"With the single-aisle and forward flow of people getting off,
it's easier to grab on the way out, rather than head back to grab your bag.

"As a flight attendant, I would say find the spot closest to your seat.
This way, passengers can keep an eye on their belongings from their seat. Whether it's in front or behind varies in each situation."
