Seventy-five minutes is the new hour for Premier League fans desperate to hear of their club's starting XI.

From August team news will be published 15 minutes earlier than before in an attempt to fall in line with UEFA competitions and will give angry Fantasy Premier League players an additional quarter of an hour to rage when their captain is dropped to the bench.

It is one of four key changes to come in the new campaign with tweaks to VAR and the eventual arrival of semi-automated offsides also on the cards after one of the autumn international breaks.

The Premier League fixture list for 2024/25, subject to endless changes for television schedules, was published on Tuesday morning as anticipation builds ahead of the new campaign despite the European Championship hogging the limelight.

Clubs are unlikely to "do a Real Madrid ", however, by announcing their starting line-ups more than two hours before games - as done by Carlo Ancelotti's team before the recent Champions League final win against Borussia Dortmund at Wembley.

The most recent Premier League rule book states that: "A representative of each participating Club shall submit a team sheet by such method as approved by the Board containing the following particulars: L.23.1. the shirt numbers and names of its Players (including substitute Players) who are to take part in that League Match; L.23.2. the colour of the Strip to be worn by its Players, including the goalkeeper; and L.23.3. the names and job titles of up to seven Officials who will occupy the trainer’s bench during that League Match. L.24.

"At least 60 minutes before the time fixed for the kick-off of a League Match, the Manager or a senior member of the coaching staff listed in Rule L.23.3 of each participating Club shall attend a briefing with the referee."

But that is expected to be edited to 75 minutes when the new handbook is released. A confirmed date for semi-automated offsides has not been announced but it is intended to come after one of the international breaks.

The Premier League say it "will provide quicker and consistent placement of the virtual offside line, based on optical player tracking." But the jury will remain out for anyone who has absorbed VAR’s messiness.
