Helen Flanagan was left in tears over the weekend as she admitted she has a "difficult" relationship with her ex Scott Sinclair.

The soap star, 33, split from her footballer fiance after 13 years together and welcoming their three children - Matilda, seven, Delilah, five and two-year-old Charlie. They decided to part ways in October 2022, and Helen has been open about the challenges of adapting to life as a single mum.

Earlier this year, the TV star had a devastating breakdown, where she spiralled into a “very scary” psychotic episode. She has now shared how she became emotional over the weekend after taking eldest daughter Matilda to London. Helen shared snaps from their day out, which included an afternoon tea.

Alongside the photos, Helen gushed: “Matilda wanted to go to the beauty and the beast afternoon tea @waldorfhilton and it was so lovely x. I’m so proud of the beautiful girl Matilda is and how lovely and kind and fun she is and how well she adapts to change.” The mum-of-three then explained: “I felt really emotional that day, a lot of personal things going on and it can be extremely emotionally draining co parenting when you have a difficult relationship.”

She shared her thanks to an unknown couple who gave up their table for Matilda after Helen was unable to get a reservation. Helen added: “I left my phone to try and be more present and lots of chats and cuddles and her beautiful little face. So grateful for Matilda, mummy got a bit teary but they were happy tears.”

The former Coronation Street actress continued: “I had therapy at the beginning of the year and I felt like I was able to come back to my natural self and not suppress my emotions and I let myself cry now. I felt a little bit lost before I had Matilda, when I had my baby girl it gave me a feeling of purpose and inspiration. Whenever I’m stuck in a situation and don’t know what to do, I think what would I want my daughter to do and I do that.”

Helen was diagnosed with psychosis after taking her children on her dream New Year’s break in Bali. She said: “My kids weren’t with me on Christmas Day because I like to be really fair with my ex, and it sounds so silly because it was only one day, but it hit me really hard. The plan was for me to take them to Bali for New Year instead, and although I enjoyed it, I didn’t feel myself. I was struggling. I felt terrible when I got back, I was crying all the time, I felt so low.”

Opening up to The Mirror, she admitted she had unresolved trauma over her split with Scott. Helen said: “I don’t see it as a break-up, I see it as a divorce. We were together 13 years. But instead of processing it all, I threw myself into work and shut off my emotions. I just went into survival mode. Then it all came to the surface earlier this year and I was mentally and physically breaking down.” Helen started medicating her ADHD but suffered an “awful reaction” to her prescription and went into a psychotic episode.
