Laurence Fox has confirmed his engagement to Liz Barker, who has shared some controversial views of her own.

The former actor took to social media on Tuesday to confirm that the couple had become engaged to marry, sharing a snap of the pair as Elizabeth flashed her sparkly ring. He captioned his upload: "Some personal news from @CaliforniaFrizz and me," alongside a red heart emoji. Liz responded: "Here's to us, my love," as fans rushed to congratulate the couple.

Elizabeth, known to many as Liz was seen alongside the former Celebrity Gogglebox personality as he attended the High Court in November at the start of his libel trial. The divorced dad-of-two, 45, was sued by former Stonewall trustee Simon Blake and drag artist Crystal over a row on Twitter, now known as X, in October 2020.

He had previously libelled the pair by referring to them as "paedophiles" on the micro-blogging site. Fox used the term following a discussion about Sainsbury's decision to celebrate Black History Month. He later went on to counter-sue the pair and former Coronation Street actress Nicola Thorp regarding tweets which accused him of racism. At the time, Fox stated he would be boycotting the supermarket chain and accused it of promoting "racial segregation and discrimination".

But Liz, who was seen outside court in January with Fox has sparked controversy in the past with her views. Liz who describes herself as a model and stuntwoman often appears on the Elite Thinking Club podcast which often airs wild conspiracy theories. During one episode of the podcast and a discussion about the evolution of humans descending from apes, Liz said: "I think that's what we're made to believe and that is what we should be believing but I don't think that is. No. I think we come from another race." Three years ago, she appeared on the podcast to suggest that climate change was a "smoke screen for something else".

"I feel like [climate change] is the next emergency they want to throw at us," she said before adding: "It's like we've gone from the Covid emergency to climate change... The next thing we want to control you with is climate change." Despite evidence showing astronauts on the Moon in 1969, she also stated she believed this was a "big lie".

Much like her partner, Liz has also shared wild views on coronavirus and posted online that she refused to wear a mask on set while filming what appeared to be The Batman in Liverpool in 2020. She has also shared images of her wearing a t-shirt reading: "I will not comply" and waving a sign to support people who have vandalised the ULEZ cameras in London. On her X profile, Liz's bio reads: "Student of Life & Law. Pro Freedom. Allergic to Corruption. Rebel For Humanity. Love Always Wins."

Throughout Laurence's libel trial, which he had lost – she stood by his side and was even seen with him hustings ahead of the Uxbridge by-election in July last year, where Fox lost his deposit after receiving just 714 votes. Writing on X after learning of the judge's ruling, Fox told his followers: "I will now make my statement at 3:30 outside the Royal Courts of Justice because I’ve read the judgement and absorbed it."

Outside the High Court, Mr Fox vowed to appeal the ruling and suggested £2 million had been spent on the legal battle. "Today a judge in the High Court has ruled I didn't suffer any serious harm through the allegation of racism made against me, which is strange because at the same time, she also declined to define the meaning of the word racist."

Of the appeal, he said: "That's another million quid we are going to have to spend to find out the meaning of a word every single person in this country knows."
