"A woman in her 40s has been confirmed as deceased and her family are aware.

"This is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."

The death came on the same day that a fire hit the festival, filling the sky with black smoke.

The fire has since been extinguished by on-site staff, confirmed cops and Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service.

They confirmed that no local fire services were required to be in attendance.

Isle of Wight Police said in a statement that the blaze started when a golf buggy went up in flames.

A statement from the Isle of Wight Festival read: "A fire broke out in an area of the festival.

"The fire was contained and quickly extinguished by the fire services and no one was injured."

Yesterday is the first day of the festival - with huge 90s legends like The Prodigy, Pet Shop Boys and Green Day slated to perform.

On Saturday, iconic Britpop band Suede will make their mark as Big Top headliners.
