BBC Sport presenter Emma Jones has announced she will be "taking time away" from work after spending time in hospital.

Jones, 34, joined the BBC in 2021 and has worked on Match of the Day X regularly, as well as working for various other outlets in the past. The popular host took to social media on Wednesday night, though, to share that she has recently been hospitalised.

Writing on X, Jones said: "My health hasn’t been in a great place for quite some time now and I’ve spent more time in hospital than my own home. I’m taking time away from work/life to focus on getting back to full strength. I’ll be back soon."

Jones, who has over 345,000 followers on the social media platform, was inundated with messages of support from well-wishers after announcing the news.

Sky Sports legend Jeff Stelling was among those who reached out. The former Soccer Saturday host wrote: "Sorry to hear that. Hope things improve soon." Former Leeds striker Jermaine Beckford also replied, saying: "Thinking of you guys x".

Jones previously hosted the official Leeds Utd Podcast with Beckford, who scored 85 goals across 152 appearances for the Elland Road outfit earlier in his career. Jones also previously worked as a host for LUTV.

In an interview with The Yorkshire Evening Post back in 2018, Jones spoke about her relationship with the club. She said: “I am a Leeds fan now. You can’t go to Elland Road and not be.

“I love the job, I genuinely love it. I feel privileged to be doing it as well. It’s the people you meet and the stories they tell and the passion they have.

“As soon as I started at LUTV, it was obvious why people have such a love for the club. I turned up and by week two I was screaming louder than anyone in the South Stand!”
