The son of the "world's richest Gypsy" has spoken out about his surprise conversion to Islam.
Alfie Best Jr is the son of gypsy billionaire Alfie Best and recently appeared on Dodge Woodall's podcast to share his humble beginnings and religious beliefs.
He says he picked up a copy of the Qur’an, and it instantly spoke to him. ”It had morals that I had already lived by …it’s a moral code a beautiful moral code for anybody, and any family." Alfie recalled.
And he pointed out that intermittent fasting has recently been recognised as having significant health benefits: “They wrote this in the Qur’an 1400 years ago.
“They didn't know whether it was good or bad for you – there’s things in the Qur’an – scientific facts that were written then which they wouldn't know 1400 years ago.
Elon Musk makes history by becoming the first person in the world to lose $200bn“People can try to dispute it but there's no dispute of it. Everybody can agree the Qur’an's never been changed.”
Alfie’s dad, he says, accepts his religious conversion without necessarily understanding it. The billionaire is far too busy with work to look into the Qur’an himself.
He says he was nervous about breaking the news to his dad, but was actually met with a very positive reaction: “I thought my dad would look at me like I’d gone doolally. I let time be the judge and later I asked him ‘do you think it has made me a better person Dad?’
“He said, ‘no, because you weren’t a bad person anyway but it has enhanced you as a person’, which I think was a beautiful and brilliant way to explain it.”
Alfie’s new-found religious faith is in sharp contrast to his earlier life, when he was running raucous nightclub events. "I've done a Travellers’ party and it was literally uncontrollable," he explained. I opened at 8:00, the police came and closed me at 12, but in that one night I managed to get all the money back that I invested in the club."
“There are feuds going on before they walk into the club, that’s where the problem could start.” Booze would only heighten the tensions, and as Travellers are “the biggest drinkers that you've ever seen” tensions could get quite high, quite quickly.
He would often hire specialist security staff for his events because the average bouncer wouldn’t know how to deal with the specific requirements of a roomful of tipsy Travellers.
