Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe is set to face at least one managerial headache this summer, with Nice boss Francesco Farioli to become Ajax manager.

The Dutch giants have agreed a fee with the Ligue 1 side, owned by Ratcliffe's company INEOS, to secure the arrival of Farioli, who is expected to sign a three-year deal. Farioli took charge of Nice less than 12 months ago and guided the team to fifth place in the league.

It will leave Ratcliffe and INEOS, whose experts including Dave Brailsford have played a signficant role at United since the turn of the year, familiar with the managerial market ahead of their decision on Erik ten Hag this summer. The Red Devils hierarchy are expected to come to a conclusion in the days following the FA Cup final where Man United take on local rivals Manchester City.

Ratcliffe has ruthlessly made changes throughout the club since purchasing his 27.7 per cent stake, with a new recruitment structure being formed. Jason Wilcox has already arrived at Old Trafford as a technical director while United hope to also acquire the services of Dan Ashworth amid the ongoing dispute with his current employers Newcastle United.

From the outset of his arrival, Ratcliffe avoided publically backing Ten Hag, as he suggested the whole club would be assessed to try and turn around the 13-times Premier League champions fortunes. Nevertheless, speaking this month, United's Dutch coach had no intention of saying goodbye.

“A goodbye? For me? It's not how I feel it and not how I see it," he said ahead of United's final home game.. “It's not the way I will go to start that lap of honour for the fans, no.”

Ten Hag added that he believed United's decision-makers would show commen sense when judging his season. "They know that [injuries] will have a negative impact on results," he said . "Still we are fighting. It's huge the FA Cup final. We are happy to be there. It can be a highlight for this season.

"We aren't happy but we know the reason we are underperforming is because of the injuries. No team will perform when you have so many injuries in key areas."
