Detectives are hunting a dog owner after a teen was savaged by a dog leaving him with a "nasty" leg injury.

The teenage boy was bitten on his leg on a street in Poole, Dorset, last week, with the youngster needing hospital treatment for the wound. Police are searching for the woman seen with the dog, who reportedly made off from the scene leaving the victim.

Officers were called to Seaview Road in the town on Tuesday morning after the attack between 10.30 and 11am. They've now issued details about her appearance in the hopes of information which could trace her and the dog, whose breed remains unknown.

The boy injured, whose exact age has not been disclosed, was only helped when a male passerby intervened. Police are also trying to trace the good Samaritan.

Dorset Police described the woman as being five feet tall with long brown hair and aged in her 40s. She was wearing a black top with ‘GUESS’ written across the front in white print and dark blue trousers at the time. The dog was described as black and stocky and was reportedly wearing a black harness and on a lead.

Police Constable Callum Mercer, of Bournemouth police, said: “This incident resulted in a child requiring treatment to a nasty leg injury. We have been carrying out enquiries into this incident and as we have now obtained full details from the victim, we are now in a position to appeal for witnesses or anyone with information to contact us.“

He added: “I am particularly keen to hear from a man described as five feet nine inches tall, aged in his 30s and wearing a blue tracksuit who reportedly intervened to help the child when the incident occurred. I would also urge the woman involved to please do the right thing and get in touch with us so we can take your account of what happened.”
