Chocolate fans have been left in stitches by Ciara the Caterpillar - the latest dupe of Colin the Caterpillar.

Marks and Spencer has been selling their beloved Colin Caterpillar for decades. Now, the supermarket sells mini versions of the iconic cake as well as Colin the Caterpillar chocolate mousse pots. Plus, Connie the Giant Caterpillar also joined the M&S family to fans' delight and you can now even personalise the beloved cake. But, these days the iconic 30-year-old cake faces a lot of competition, with similar products on offer, often for lower prices.

Of all the world's most entertaining cases, chocolate fans were hooked when German discount store Aldi announced it was bringing back the £5.49 Cuthbert the Caterpillar after settling a legal battle with M&S. Other supermarkets have also launched their own versions of the famous creature cake - from Waitrose's £8.50 Cecil the Caterpillar to Tesco's Slinky Caterpillar Cake for £7.50.

Meanwhile Sainsbury's has Wiggles the Caterpillar cake for £7.50, Asda has Letty for £7.50, and Morrisons launched their caterpillar character named Morris for £7.50. And now Lidl has hopped on the caterpillar trail, as it has introduced customers to Ciara.

A spokesperson for Lidl said: "Meet Ciara, our new caterpillar cake ambassador. Nothing like that other fella. Nolan? Alan? Colin? Ah who cares, Ciara's here."

A post went viral on X recently, raking in over 377,500 views, after user @BigDirtyFry shared a picture of Ciara the Caterpillar 'celebration cake' and said: "She has my full support. Caterpillar cakes are a notoriously male dominated industry." One person commented: "It's a very glamorous named for a caterpillar." "There's a new girl on the scene," added another.

One individual who has tried the cake commented: "And she's delicious." One other described the treat as a "thing of beauty". One other added: "Excuse me, M&S Connie the Caterpillar cake would like a word." "Connie isn't happy," joked one other.
