Luke Humphries once again showed his class by heaping praise on darts rival Luke Littler following their epic Premier League final clash.

Littler, who's just 17, romped to an 11-7 victory at the O2 Arena, hitting a perfect nine-dart finish when the scores were level. The teenage sensation got revenge on Humphries, who beat him in the World Championship final just over four months ago.

Reflecting on Thursday's defeat on stage in front of an elated crowd, 'Cool Hand' Humphries told Sky Sports : "I was trying to stick in there but there was a big breeze coming through the stage all evening, which is so hard to deal with. That's credit to Luke. He managed it so well all night.

"After the break he played much better. He's a fantastic player, he really is. Me and Luke are the two greatest players in the world right now. I love playing him and we're going to have a lot of battles in the future. If you look at the season as a whole he deserves to win the Premier League."

Littler, meanwhile, was bullish at the start of his post-game interview. "One thing I want to say," the 17-year-old from Warrington began. "For all the doubters, hello! I've just picked up this, you aren't doubting me anymore! That's it.

He added: "It's so good to win in front of my family, girlfriend and manager. I don't know what to do! [The nine darter] is another record. I'd just come off the break, I needed the toilet and thought this is it. Let's do it. We love a break, play our darts and come back on."

Luke 'The Nuke' went on to say: "I've been practising really hard, I was dead focused, I didn't want to blink. I'm a major winner now, but I go to New York next week then a week off in Orlando. I can't wait to play in them all, I've done so well on the Euro Tour and Pro Tour. We'll meet in many finals. Now it's 1-1."

Littler had already topped the Premier League table to earn top seed on finals night in London. He then breezed past Michael Smith 10-5 before Humphries ended Michael van Gerwen's defence of the Premier League title by the same scoreline.
