Murder probe launched after bodies of man and woman found inside home

Police have launched a double murder probe after the bodies of a man and a woman were discovered in a house on a sleepy street.

Officers were called by paramedics to the scene in Cannock, Staffs., on Tuesday afternoon after the the bodies were discovered in a house on the quiet, residential street. The man and woman, who have yet to be publicly identified, were found at around 12.30pm.

The street remained sealed off for several hours as forensics carried out their investigation. Police meanwhile have urged people not to speculate about the man and woman's deaths.

Staffordshire Police said in a statement: “Specially-trained officers have been assigned to support their families at this tragic time. A cordon has been set up in the area whilst we carry out enquiries to understand the circumstances of the deaths. We’d like to ask people not to speculate whilst we do this.

“We’ve created an online portal where people can leave information they may have. You can access the Major Incident Public Portal, here: Public Portal (mipp.police.uk)”.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called to a concern for welfare at house in Hednesford on Tuesday lunchtime. Two paramedic officers and an ambulance were sent to an address on Alpine Drive.

"After gaining access to the property at just before 12.20pm, paramedics found a man and a woman inside. Sadly, it was immediately obvious that nothing could be done to save them and ambulance staff immediately alerted Staffordshire police."
