ANGRY Pearl Jam fans have accused the US band of desperately flogging tickets for £10 before cancelling their London concert.

The rock band had been due to perform at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this weekend but pulled the plug at the last minute.

Illness has been blamed for the eleventh hour cancellation but fans are concerned that poor ticket sales could also play a part.

Pearl Jam fans have been speculating online that there could be more to the axing of the gig than meets the eye.

One person wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter: "Wow this gig has been a total disaster for the band.

"Ridiculously high ticket prices, thousands upon thousands unsold.

"Ticket prices dropped to half the price still blocks and blocks of empty seats, a lot of bad press over the gig and now it gets cancelled."

Another added: "Cancelled due to illness but prob more likely to poor ticket sales. Poorly executed tour."

A third suggested: "I reckon poor ticket sales & overpriced tickets is the real issue here."

And someone else commiserated: "Man, what a shame for those who had planned this in advance and those who decided to buy last minute cheap tickets. (There were tons of 10-pound tickets available) Hope the band recovers."

Pearl Jam announced the cancellation of Saturday night's gig in London on Friday lunchtime.

On Tuesday night, band members Eddie Vedder, Stone Gossard, Mike McCready, Jeff Ament, and Matt Cameron had performed at Manchester’s Co-op Live Arena.

However, lead singer Eddie was feeling unwell and he told the crowd he was struggling with his voice during the show.

A lengthly statement posted to Pearl Jam's social media accounts read on Friday: “The Pearl Jam concert scheduled for Saturday, June 29 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London has regrettably been cancelled due to illness in the band.

“This  decision was the last thing we wanted to have to make, especially as we know so many of you made travel plans based on the tour schedule. There was simply no other option based on our current health and also having to avoid further damage.

“We couldn’t be more disappointed to not play one of our favourite cities this tour. Despite best efforts, rescheduling was not possible at this time due to existing schedule commitments.

“We are deeply grateful for your support and sincerely apologise to the incredible Pearl Jam community for the inconvenience and disappointment. Tickets will be refunded at point of purchase.”

Earlier this month, Seattle grunge veterans Pearl Jam slashed ticket prices for the London show at Tottenham Hotspur.

Premium standing tickets were initially priced at £249.45, much to the astonishment of some fans, while even seats at the back of the stadium were £125.
