SHOCKING footage shows the moment cops shot dead an XL Bully after the out-of-control dog attacked a woman.

Greater Manchester Police said the beast had attacked other members of the public after going on the rampage, with the woman rushed to hospital.

Cops added that attempts to regain control over the hound failed, even using specially trained officers.

In the footage circulating online, two armed officers are seen chasing the animal down a street in Eccles in Salford, Manchester on Friday evening.

The dog - confirmed by police to have been a banned breed - is shown running about and weaving around parked cars.

A Taser was said to be fired before at least six gunshots were heard.

It is understood that the video footage being shared online doesn't show the full incident in its entirety.

Killing the dog was the “last possible option”, cops confirmed.

One resident in Eccles, Gtr Manchester, said: “You don’t expect to see a police officer running down your street shooting at a dog.

“Any one of those shots could have ricocheted into a house. Some of the neighbours and myself had our cars damaged and my sister was in the house and she was very distressed.”

Two men were arrested after confronting officers.

Police said enquiries regarding the XL Bully’s owner were ongoing.

The breed became subject to strict ownership rules this year following a string of attacks.

A GMP spokesperson said: "At around 9pm on Friday June 28, 2024, on Gladstone Road in Eccles we were called to several reports of a dog dangerously out of control that was subsequently attacking the public and injured a woman in the process.

"Initially, both local officers and the public were unable to regain control of the dog.

"Specialised officers were deployed and tried to safely secure the XL Bully but were unsuccessful.

"This meant unfortunately due to the risk and harm it was causing as a banned breed it was destroyed at the scene as the last possible option.

"Two men were later arrested and detained after confronting officers.

"The woman victim is still receiving treatment for her injuries.

"We understand the concern this incident will raise within the community but our officers have a duty to act in challenging situations on a regular basis with the aim of keeping everyone safe."
