During his tenure as the Prince of Wales, Charles spent decades dedicated to preparing to one day take the throne. As the longest-serving person to hold this title, he had the opportunity to use his royal work for years on the causes closest to his heart.

From environmentalism to promoting the arts and helping young people from disadvantaged backgrounds through the Prince's Trust, Charles certainly didn't sit around twiddling his thumbs until he was to become monarch. However, despite his extensive charitable work the now-king also found the time to make one very brief, and pretty unexpected foray into another career altogether: presenting the weather forecast.

Charles was persuaded to give reading the weather a go by BBC Scotland back in 2012 when he was visiting Glasgow with his wife Camilla. The couple were there to celebrate the 60th anniversary of BBC Scotland on television. The special broadcast saw the then-Prince of Wales give a particularly royal version of the weather, with the various residences of the Windsors getting shout-outs in the script - making Charles laugh and ask "‘Who the hell wrote this script?"

As reported in the Daily Mail, the weather map had been littered with royal residences like Balmoral where the family annually spends their summer holiday in August, and the Castle of Mey - the Queen Mother's former Scottish home.

Charles gave reading the special royal script a strong go, but his delivery wasn't quite as slick as the usual seasoned broadcasters we see on our television screens, "Well it's an unsettled picture as we head towards the end of the week," Charles read during the unusual broadcast, "Ahh, this afternoon it will be cold, wet and windy across most of Scotland. The rain, of course, will be heaviest over the borders and, err, around Edinburgh, where it could lead to difficult conditions on the roads."

A royal aide was quoted as saying about Charles's quick foray into new career territory: "The Prince entered into the spirit of the occasion and did very well, we think." Camilla also gave reading the weather a go once her husband had finished and noted that Charles had "always longed to do it. He watches it every night!"

The presenters were equally impressed with Charles's ability at the job, with a news presenter warning the show's regular weatherman that he might now be facing some stiff competition for his day job.
