Bayern Munich believe Thomas Tuchel let talks over a new deal collapse because he is already lined up to replace Erik ten Hag at Manchester United, according to reports.

It was announced back in February that Tuchel would be leaving Bayern at the end of the season, with the club failing to win the Bundesliga for the first time in 12 years as Xabi Alonso's Bayer Leverkusen dominated the league.

It then emerged earlier this month that Tuchel and Bayern were in negotiations over a new contract. However, Tuchel has since revealed they "didn't reach an agreement" and Burnley boss Vincent Kompany is now in line to replace him at the Allianz Arena.

"This is my last press conference," Tuchel said ahead of Bayern's 4-2 defeat to Hoffenheim in their final game of the season. "There were talks, but we didn't reach an agreement, so the decision of February still stands."

And according to Bild, Bayern are 'convinced' Tuchel let those talks collapse because he 'already has the job at Manchester United secured'. It comes after reports emerged claiming United will sack Ten Hag regardless of whether they win the FA Cup final.

Ten Hag, though, has claimed Sir Jim Ratcliffe has infomed him he wants him to stay. Speaking to Dutch outlet Vi.NL, Ten Hag said: "They said they want to change everything and that they want to rebuild WITH me. This is what they told me directly."

He added: "INEOS will change things in the club and certain projects have already started. Carrington will get be completely destroyed, a new training ground will come. We need to sign an extra striker in the summer.

"And if we can sign another central midfielder and a replacement for (Raphael) Varane, things will look good again. If the team remains fit we can try and aim for top 4 again. We were supposed to start building something and we made the first steps last year, but then you find out how big this club is and that nobody is ever satisfied.

"Within the club people were satisfied, but outside the club there was noise by saying I won only the Carabao Cup, lost the FA Cup Final and become 3rd. Well, then you have no sense of reality. Other clubs had a much better squad."
