Manchester United outcast Mason Greenwood has said his goodbyes to the Getafe fans and thanked them for 'welcoming him as one of their own'.

The 22-year-old striker will now leave Spain after he spent this season on loan in La Liga, where he made 46 appearances for Getafe, netting 10 times.

In a rare social media update, Greenwood posted pictures of himself at Getafe alongside the words: "Incredibly grateful to the Getafe family and fans for an amazing season.

"Thank you for making me feel welcome and one of your own. I enjoyed every second, alongside my team-mates and club. A bitter-sweet ending, but it was a pleasure to play for you, I wish you all the best."

Greenwood joined Getafe on loan after being suspended by Man United following charges of attempted rape, controlling and coercive behaviour and assault.

The Crown Prosecution Service dropped all charges against Greenwood but the forward is yet to return to the first-team fold at Old Trafford.

It is currently unclear what Greenwood's plans are for next season, with a return to United very unlikely, despite Sir Jim Ratcliffe previously opening the door to the possibility.

In February, Ratcliffe said: "We will make a decision, correct. All I can do is talk about the principle of how we will approach decisions like that. Is he the right type of footballer, are we happy with if is he a good person or not?"

"He's a Manchester United footballer, so we are in charge of football. So the answer is 'Yeah, we have to make decisions. It's quite clear we have to make a decision. There is no decision that's been made."

Greenwood recently dropped a hint he is set to leave Man United permanently this summer after The Sun reported his £2million mansion in the area is now up for rent.

DON'T SCRAP REPLAYS!

The six-bedroom pad is fully furnished and is available for £14,000 per month. A source told the paper: "The fact it's on the market is a strong indication Mason has no plans to return to United. The house was his home when he hit the big time with the club."

Getafe fans took to Greenwood this season and were heard singing "Mason, stay" after the defeat by Mallorca on the final day of the season.
