Giovanni Pernice isn’t letting the Strictly Come Dancing fall out get him down as he continued to promote his new show with pal Anton Du Beke.
The Italian pro dancer, who is facing ‘abusive behaviour’ allegations from previous celebrity dance partners including Amanda Abbington, took to Instagram to share a video with Strictly judge Anton as the pair gear up to go on tour together this summer.
Promoting their new stage show, called Anton & Giovanni Together: The Live Tour, the dancing duo filmed a sweet message for fans as they wrote in the caption: “TOGETHER Again!!! NOT TO BE MISSED!! @mrantondubeke @giovannipernice.”
In the clip, 57-year-old Anton said: “First day of rehearsals. Always my favourite day. Second day, less so.” Giovanni, 33, goes in for a hug as he tells fans: “We are back on tour! It feels nice, it’s lovely. We can’t wait to see all of you!”
Anton continued: “We open on the 14th of June and then we’re out on the road until the end of July. Very, very exciting, It’s going to be a great show, we’ve got the most amazing cast. Our dancers and singers are remarkable.” Agreeing, Giovanni says: “Unbelievable.” Putting on a united front, they end the video with a hug as Giovanni adds: “The show is called Together, as you know. And whatever we do, we’re going to get through it together.”
What Ola and James Jordan really ate and did to shed 7stFans were quick to comment underneath posting messages of support. It comes after Giovanni sensationally quit Strictly after nine years earlier this month. One fan wrote: “Stay strong Giovanni and so glad you have the wonderful Anton by your side.” Another said: “It’s lovely to see Gio looking so happy.” A third posted: “Look after Gio Anton... and can’t wait to see you both x.” A fourth said: “Soooo glad you’ve got each other!!!” As a fifth added: “Sending love and support x.”
Giovanni’s shock announcement came weeks after his most recent celebrity dance partner, Sherlock and Mr Selfridge star Amanda Abbington, claimed she quit the show after getting mild PTSD from his strict training methods and has brought a civil claim against him. Other former celebrity dance partners have made further claims about his treatment of them, all of which he denies, and the BBC is said to be investigating.
In the wake of the "abusive behaviour" allegations, Giovanni issued a statement on Instagram refuting any suggestion of "abusive or threatening behaviour". He wrote: "To my dear fans, you will be as surprised as I am that allegations have been made about my dance teaching methods in the media this week. Of course, I reject any suggestion of abusive or threatening behaviour, and I look forward to clearing my name.
"Those who have followed my journey on over the last decade will know that I am passionate and competitive. No-one is more ambitious for my dance partners than me. I have always striven to help them be the very best dancers they can be. This has always come from a place of love and wanting to win - for me and my dance partners. Thank you all once again for your continued love and support! Giovanni."
Giovanni is said to have instructed Joelle Rich, a partner in London-based law firm Schillings who represented Johnny Depp during his 2020 libel battle against The Sun and Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, to represent him. The law firm will go head to head with Carter Ruck, the law firm acting for Amanda and two other women.
