Newcastle United are plotting a summer move for Arsenal’s Kieran Tierney who has become increasingly frustrated at the Emirates.

Scottish international Tierney who was signed from Celtic in August 2019 for £25 million has lost his regular starting spot to former Manchester City defender Oleksandr Zinchenko. Fit again following a knee problem Tierney has been forced into a back up role, often named on the substitutes bench in the Gunners push for the Premier League title.

That has alerted Carabao Cup finalists Newcastle who are determined to make their own title challenge next season through big-name reinforcements in the summer.

Tierney who is anxious for regular first team football is believed to be open to a move to the North East to join manager Eddie Howe’s Tyneside revolution.

Howe is still on the trail of Leicester City’s James Maddison – Newcastle have had bids of up to £50 million turned down for the England midfielder – but has been joined in the chase by Manchester City and Tottenham. Newcastle are also monitoring exciting young Brighton striker Evan Ferguson’s progress with the south coast club.

Newcastle scouts are also running checks on in-demand Bristol City midfielder Alex Scott. Scott has attracted interest from a host of Premier League clubs with Wolves failing in a bid to land him and Bournemouth also looking to sign him in January.

Tottenham, West Ham and Crystal Palace have also had Scott watched and now Newcastle are ready to enter the race to land him. The 19-year-old is regarded as one of the brightest young talents in the country and he fits the profile of player the Toon have been targeting.

The Carabao Cup finalists are keen to sign players who are ready made for the Premier League but have room to develop, too. And Scott, who can operate in several roles across midfield, ticks all their boxes.

The player has already made 78 appearances for Bristol City since joining from Guernsey in 2020. City are aware of the growing interest in Scott and expect offers for the teen — who won’t turn 20 until August — in this summer’s transfer window.
