While it might be tempting to keep your undies on for a cosy night's sleep, the lingerie gurus at Pour Moi are suggesting we ditch the drawers before hitting the hay this summer.
They're touting a host of perks from health benefits to an enhanced sense of freedom that come with sleeping starkers. Pour Moi's Lingerie Buyer, Emma Woodrow, has sounded the alarm: "Sleeping with tight, uncomfortable knickers on can lead to multiple health issues, including irritation, chafing, infections (from bacteria build-up) and unwanted odours."
She warns that as temperatures rise, so does the sweat down under, increasing moisture and the risk of infections. Plus, snug undies could leave you with unsightly marks or chafing, potentially ruining your morning, reports Bristol Live.
Emma has dished out three top reasons to consider going commando at bedtime:
- Allows your skin to breathe—In the summer, our intimate areas can get extra sweaty, so sleeping without underwear is a great way to allow your skin to recover from a day under multiple layers of clothing. Allowing air to flow around your intimate area can help reduce irritations, heat rashes, or any other skin discomfort you might find yourself getting.
- Reduces the risk of infections and irritation - During hot nights, your intimate area might feel sweatier than normal, as more moisture is likely to build up if you’re wearing tight underwear. By forgoing underwear, you can stay drier and be at less risk of bacteria buildup, meaning fewer infections.
- More comfortable—Sleeping without underwear is much more comfortable for your skin. Your body won’t feel restricted by tight fabrics, and your skin will be free of any marks or irritation left behind by tight knickers. If you're usually left feeling constricted by tight clothing, sleeping nude may help you sleep better and have a more restful night's sleep.
She further advises: "Whilst it might feel comforting to wear underwear to sleep, you mustn't go to bed in anything too tight - this includes pyjama bottoms. Not only will this be uncomfortable to sleep in, especially during warm nights, but sleeping in a loose-fitting, breathable fabric is essential for keeping your skin happy.

"If you're not used to sleeping in the nude, perhaps give it a go this summer to see if you wake up feeling a little more fresh and comfortable. However, if the thought of sleeping commando isn't for you, opting for a comfortable cotton pair of pants or pyjama bottoms will be a much better option and will help keep your skin happy."
